This week I began sketching out the portrait of Nicolae Ceausescu in pencil, and have gotten most of it done. Next week I will need to work on shading it in with charcoal, then smearing it to create the effect I want.

So far this week has been dedicated to planning out what I want to do. I've decided to go with my idea of "invincible" dictators and world leaders, so I spent some time researching and deciding who I wanted to draw a portrait of, then destroy. I chose to start with Nicolae Ceausescu, a Cold War era Romanian dictator who inspired this idea in the first place. I'm going to start with a somewhat small piece of paper for this first project just to see how long it will take, and if the methods I want to use for drawing and shading, then subsequently blurring and distorting the image actually work as I hope they will.
